Laptop screen wont stay up

My laptop screen will not stay open. The damping mechanism isn't working. it flops freely forward and backward unless i use one hand to hold it in place. Someone mentioned the hinges being loose. i'm not sure if that is the case but if it is, i cannot figure out how to fix it.

yes tighten the hinges or go to a computer store and ask them to do that
