Laptop shuts off immediately when unplugged

I have the Toshiba satellite radius 4K edition laptop and it's just barely a year old. I went to go unplug the power chord yesterday because it was fully charged and it immediately turned off. I then tried turning it back on without the power chord in but it would not turn on. So now it only works with the power chord in. I haven't had an issue with the battery until now. Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? It's not an easy removable battery, I'd have to take off the bottom of the laptop.

that's a good question. I bought it from best buy and I don't think I got any special warranty so I'm going to say no. I mean if anything it was probably a year but I got it last November so if there was a warranty it's probably up

It's the Satellite P55W-C5316. If you're looking for the part number, it's PSPVTU-008001

Mention it to them Apple has this thing where they expect the battery to be at a certain health after a certain time and they will take care of you if it's out of warranty. Your battery's health seems to be at 0.

I assume you run this thing on battery once in a while? (like a car, must exercise it), if you did not, don't tell Toshiba.

Yeah I don't just leave it on the charger. I mean I have to now or else it won't turn on but I'd charge it up fully then unplug it and run it down until it's about to die. But yeah I'll give that a try. I mean it's a $1000 laptop that's barely a year old you'd think they'd take care of it.

Some manufacturers only warranty the battery for 6 months. They just don't last very long.
Unexpected and total battery death is normal.
I don't buy a new battery because they're too expensive. I plug in an external battery like a powerbank or Uninterruptible Power Supply.

Ok so I have the same laptop and bought is on December 31, 2016 and this week it has done the same thing to me! The laptop shuts off as soon as I take it off the charger. I have used this computer with and without the cord....I went to take it with me for a presentation and it turned off, I thought something was wrong and it did it again then went to a screen that said some thing about a driver. I took it in for repair with our computer specialist at work. They could not find anything wrong with it but said it looks like the battery.
Anyway what happened with yours? Did you replace the battery and no problem now?

I mean my laptop was bought December 31,2015! Woops! So it is just over a year and is doing the same thing...what did you get figured out as for a solution? Did replacing the battery work?

It most likely is the battery as most laptops will loose how long it can hold its charge. This will vary depending on the laptop. If it is designed to be a desktop replacement then it will be able to last a long time. If it is designed to be portable then it expects to be unplugged for a while.

That's insane man. These batteries must not be made to last long. I guess it's just because of the 4K display. But I took mine to geek squad to see what they would say and the guy said it's most likely the battery and he told me it would cost me $200 for them to fix it and he actually suggested I just do it myself. So that's what I did and it works completely fine now. Not to mention I saved a bunch of money. If I were you I'd do the same. It's not hard at all changing the battery. I bought a new one off newegg.com for like $65 and found a video on YouTube. All you have to do is unscrew the screws on the bottom of the laptop, remove the two that are holding the battery in place, unplug the battery then swap in the new one.
