When I turn my asus laptop on, it shows the asus logo then turns off, it only does that if I put the battery and universal adapter in at the same time. (The adapter had been working fine for a week until now.)
Maybe, however many are and can be made to specific specs, so that if you ruin it or it goes bad, they want you to have to come to them for the replacement and often at inflated prices. Might drop a PM to raja@asus, he's the Asus rep here on the forums and might have an idea or two
