male to male 3.5mm audio cable help

i have a male to male 3.5mm audio cable which i want to use to record audio from my psp but the problem is my hp steam 13 notebook has a combo jack that has a logo of a headphone with a mic
so when plug in my cable it doesnot pickups it please help

how does it work does the microphone jack from this adapter goes in the psp and the male to male cable goes in the jack of this adapter

how does it work does the microphone jack from this adapter goes in the psp and the male to male cable goes in the jack of this adapter

Sound out from the PSP would go to the mic port of the adapater, the male adapter plugs to into the laptop. The headphone jack would be empty.
