Messenger Plus! for Skype -- can I remove the black box that is getting recorded?

I have used Messenger Plus! for Skype a few times and its like it records a black box of dead space beneath the video. When I watch the video again later and maximize the screen it is still pretty small because it is considering this black rectangle of dead space below the video to be part of the video.

I just opened a file in a video editor to narrow down the possibilities and the huge black bar shows up there too so it is definitely part of the video. Is there anyway for me to chop off the bottom 40% of the video? Or zoom in incredibly far on the video so I can't see the black bar around it ?
