Microphone plugged into front pink jack, not making sounds.

My sound devices have the mic detected, but not making any sounds. I've went into all of my audio devices and make sure they were turned up. The mic works on my phone and playstation, its just a little lapel mic. Help.

I'm having the same issue on Windows 8.1. I bought a splitter for my earphones with an inline mic, it works on my laptop but not my desktop. Set as default device, boosted the audio, all the usual troubleshooting steps. It's driving me around the bend.
