At home, I have a Compaq / HP Pressario V3000. The monitor works for a few minutes at times when on battery power (brightness at about 50%), sometimes less than a minute. When on wall power, the monitor works for 4 seconds (100% brightness). The LCD still has a working image, but the backlight is not staying on.

According to the internet (so you know it's true... :) )I tried changing the power inverter (located inside the monitor frame) but I'm getting the same results, so it did not fix the problem.

Did I do the wrong fix?

Is the power inverter DOA?

Is it the bulb? I have no way of testing the bulb...

Would there be a way to just force the power to go to the screen? How do I determine exactly what is not working properly? The symptoms match everything I find online, why is the supposed fix not working?

Thanks.

Solution
Hello EyeMaster;

Since you're changed out the inverter the next suspect is the bulb itself.
Seems to be failing sooner under higher power load. If you set brightness @ 30% how long will it stay running? At 20%?
You might find a low power option that won't send the bulb to bed.

Solution
Backlight bulb attached to the inverter board.
