my laptop lcd is not working, the fan sounds fine but the lcd is not on. any solution?

You tried to increase the intensity for the light, the problem could be the cable or the screen itself. Worst case the motherboard.

Yes, agreed. Most likely the LCD video cable or the screen itself needs replaced; best case scenario is that the LCD video cable needs reseated.
 
If by pointing a torch at the screen and you see windows just barely and considering that the external monitor has picture, it would mean the laptop's backlight is dead. As other's mentioned it may just need reseating of the lcd cable or replacing the backlight, and the ease of such a task is dependent on the how the laptop is constructed.
