No sounds?

guys im just new here and im trying desperately to complete setting up my pc to tv using hdmi connection.Whats the best thing to do?i bought an hdmi-dvi cable and i thought this will be it.no problems with the graphics, but only the sounds.what i really wanted is just hear the sound from the tv without using any receiver,amps etc.
pls help me out guys,all replies will be appreciated.thanks in advance.
anyway this is my pc setup maybe this will help:
Windows xp
asus strikerII
2.8pentium d
2 gb
geforce 9800gtx
with no sound card
to be connected to sony bravia

HDMI can hold audio but not DVI. Unfortunately your setup will not allow you to use HDMI without ATI video card.

So you need to connect VGA instead of HDMI and use mini to RCA cable to send audio signal to your TV.

thanks for the reply.i tried doing what you advised me to do but still no sound?picture is no problem with all the resolution available.should i be using a sound card?isnt my vga card enough?is there a setting for the tv i needed to adjust?

You have to make sure that you are connecting the PC audio out to the correct input on the TV. If there is no audio input associated with the HDMI or VGA inputs you will not be able to get audio through the TV speakers
