noob can't get sound fm tv

I want to get sound fm the home theatre speakers when I watch tv. I connected my LG tv 42Ls5700 th to panasonic home theatre Sc-btt190 w a digital audio cable and hdmi cable but I cannot hear tv fm speakers. When I play DVD there is sound. Pls help

if you look at the spec sheet the hdmi on the tv is labeled as an input.

this input is from your receiver so that you get video and the option for sound from your tv speakers when you use the dvd player (or other auxilliary input devices).

the optical port is labeled as an output. you should be able to output sound from your tv tuner to the combination receiver box.

most likely you need to enable the optical output in your tv settings and change the receiver mode to optical input.
