Older Yamaha receiver and new vizio tv... Bought optical audio cable to go from receiver to tv... But it turns the sound off w

Solution
If both the TV and receiver have optical connections then you would still need to set up the TV and receiver to use that connection.
You may have to turn the optical output on, turn the TV speaker off, and change the audio output type in the TV menu.
In the receiver input set up menu you may have to assign the optical connection (say opt2) to an input (say TV) to get it working,
Check the TV and receiver manuals for details.
And yes some TVs make you turn off the TV speakers to get the optical or ARC output working.
