ON BOARD AUDIO VS USB SOUND CARd

im getting the Logitech g430 and it has a built in sound card for surround sound. but as i read reviews, they suggest that the usb sound card is not up to the mark and suggested to directly plug the 3.5mm connectors(it has kind of like a removable 3.5mm to usb sound card ). i checked if my mobo had support for 7.1 and it did. so now what should i use? would it make any difference? and also if i had a stereo headset, and i plugged into my mobo 3.5mm jacks, would i get surround sound or just stereo? does surround or stero depend on the device or just the sound card ?

Surround sound depends on number of audio channels.
2 channels = stereo.
4.1 (4 speakers + subwoofer), 5.1 (5 speakers + sub), 7.1 (7 speakers + sub)= surround.

The Logitech g430's use "virtual" surround sound contained in the portable USB sound card - any pair of headphones would work with it. If you connect the g430's directly via 3.5mm jack they will just behave as a regular, stereo set of headphone.
