i have some philips speakers as well and they havnet failed me either i like philips a lot considering you pay pretty cheap prises and get excelent quality stuff.
They seem to be highly regarded for the price, I would say go for it. Keep in mind they are open back and will leak sound, they would be best used in an isolated environment.

do you think a zalman mic will pick up the sound coming from the headphones? if so what other mics do you recommend, as cheap as possible. thanks.
As long as your not blaring your audio you should be fine. I would look into a neewer flex mic on amazon and a 3.5mm male to female extension cable to hook it up to your headphones. You would need something to hold it in place, zip ties work great. End result would look similar to this.
