Hello,
I am having a problem with this ld player. It will no longer open when
pressing the open button on either the remote or player itself. Before this
happened it would not stayed closed. Manually holding it closed led to this
where now it won't open.

What could be the problem and is it worth repairing?

Thanks in advance.

Does it try to open, you can hear the motor trying, but it won't open or
does it totally not respond?

This models only drawback is that over years the lubrication gets sticky and
the motor does not have enough power to push the front door open.

Hello,

Yes you can hear it trying to open but it just won't.

It takes quite a bit of time to disassemble these and clean. This has a
belt with teeth, not just a rubber belt so it should not be slipping as can
happen in other models. You can try something like dripping liquid graphite
in the on the gear shafts you can access with the drawer open and the two
rails the slip on the sides. But the only real way to clean is to take the
drawer assembly apart.

I don't know many specifics of laserdisc players' internal parts, but I
would assume when you held it closed you stripped a gear? That would be
worth a check.
