Poor movie quality

despite the fact that I have a high end pc with a high end video card, my movie quality is still crap. The blacks are pixelated and weird and the color looks bad. What am I doing wrong? My games look amazing.

It looks like a software issue to me than a hardware one. You might simply be missing some codecs? At least with that little info I can't say more than that. You could at least specify your rig's specs to get a more solid feedback.

What's the playback source? Is it DVD? Youtube? Windows Media Player? Something else?
