problem with refresh rate

Hi guys. I need some help. I have Sony Vaio laptop which have 1080p display and it can go up to 120hz, BUT, when i choose higher refresh rate, then the brightness is a lot darker (i checked brightness lvl and it was at max), Can you guys help me please?

By forcing your laptop to a refresh rate of 120hz you're sacrificing the life span of your laptop. The recommended refresh rate of any display is 60hz that should work best for any display.

thx for answer, but my laptop seems to support 120hz, because it has also 3D stereoscopic support (i read it is necessary for it). So even if it says it is supported, i shouldn´t use it? Because i heard that with higher refresh rate you have smoother gameplay and so on. But when i choose higher hz, it becomes darker(less bright). Any opinion please?
