Good morning guys.

Please, see if anyone can help me.

It turns out that I have opened a thread to ask the compatibility of a processor with this same computer Dell l702x, and this thread did not find it (Sorry for administrators).

First of all let me know that I have the Dell 17 l702x GeForce GT 555M, i5 2430M processor, a RAM chip (only has two RAM slots) Crucial Ballistix 1600 mhz DDR3, Windows 8.1 Pro, SSD Samsung 128 PRO, Latest BIOS A19 update, chipset HM67 and the power supply is 150 W.

I wanted to ask if any of you have had the opportunity to test the operation of the i7 2860QM on this computer, or if you know that it really works. Is that I have a friend that has this processor in a box and I would like to put it on my computer.

Thank you very much and greetings!

A quick google search confirms 2820m works with your Laptop. The 2860qm is the same TDP, it should work. Dig a little deeper to confirm.

Keep in mind upgrading your CPU is going to increase heat and decrease battery life by a large margin.

Yes, I have seen that this computer also leaves home with i7 processors. I recommend something before changing this processor (some change in the BIOS or something related) because I have read that sometimes when the computer starts up, it does not do the BIOS post, and the screen stays black with a Cursor blinking at the top left. If this happened, what could it be?

I would suggest updating your BIOS prior to CPU installation. This will ensure you have the latest codes and the BIOS will have a better chance of recognizing newer CPU's.

Yes, I have the BIOS updated to the latest version according to the official Dell website. Then I think I have only to cross my fingers to make everything work well. Tomorrow afternoon I'll see if I can change it.

I'll tell you something about the result here, okay?

I just have to thank you for the time invested in helping me resolve my doubts.

A greeting!

If the laptop processor is not soldered to the motherboard, normal can be changed, I think it is not a strange thing :)

Previously I had a HP dv6 with an i5 3210M processor, and can change it for an i7 3632QM, and everything worked correctly. So I hope that in this computer does not have any problem, but hey, no one knows what can happen. When I change it I will warn you of anything. Thank you!

Hello good afternoon!
I have already been able to change the processor, and the truth is that it works correctly on the computer. Now what I am afraid is the speed of the fan, since I have gone from 35 to 45w, and I have to check that do not bother me. Thanks for the help.

I have Dell XPS L702x Windows 7 64bit Professional, Service Pack 1 Thats the 3d version,
Intel (R) Core (.TM) i7-2860QM CPU @ 2.50 GHz that turbo's up to 3.6 ghz
With 32.gigs of Ram. And it doesn't get hot at all
Nvidia Gforce Gt 555
Samsung Pro 850 SSD 1 tb ...

But my Dell Xps L701x with a Q 740 1.73 ghz with the intel turbo and 16 gigs of ram does get a bit warm.
