Good afternoon,
I'm pretty sure I can use my retiring HP laptop's adapter with my new Dell, one at home, one at work and 3lbs less in the backpack.

I'd still rather ask those who may know better :

Connections are identical

Old HP adapter :
in = 100-240V 50-60Hz 2.0A
out = 18.5V 6.5A

New Dell :
in = 100-240V 50-60Hz 2.5A
out = 19.5V 9.23A

I understand I won't be able to charge up as fast with the HP as with the Dell, but besides that I have no clue.

What do you think ?

Hi, I do not think it is wise to use the HP adapter with the Dell laptop. The Dell laptop uses 19.5 volts and HP adapter delivers only 18.5 volts. Maybe the Dell laptop will not recognize the HP adapter.

do not use the hp adapter on the dell laptop because of not enough voltage & not enough amperage.
