sony vaio laptop won't turn on but the fans are making sounds

Hi. I have a Sony VAIO laptop. It is quite old (3+ years). It was working perfectly but the other day the screen just went black. The fans are making a little bit of noise still and when I plug in the charger the little orange light turns on but other than that it is completely unresponsive. Any ideas?

OK this is what you do:

Reboot it. Watch the HD activity LED, does it brink like it normally does, like loading the OS? If so, the computer is working but the screen is somehow broke. After the HD stops blinking, shine a flashlight up on the screen, see anything?

Next thing: Fess Up. Did you drop it, spilled liquid, let your little bro play with it?
