Have a new Q550LF laptop w/o manual. It went south days after purchase. Wrote to online ASUS tech, they suggested that I remove the battery. Uh, where's the battery and how do I remove it?

Solution
1. Turn it over, and there should be some sort of latch to release the battery.
2. Did the package come with a cd? The manual should be there.
3. Look at the asus web site, there should be a manual that can be downloaded.

Glad you brought this up, as I may be in the market for a new laptop in the near future.
This adds one more "must" have feature - REMOVABLE battery. I often care a spare battery just on the off change the battery dies, ie watching a move on a plane.

Understand Reason behind it - they took a page from tablet's, But think it's a lousy concept.
1) Makes it MORE expensive to swap out the battery when it DIES - But manuf like the profit.
2) If battery runs out of "juice" and no AC available then dead in the water. Which could have been avoided with a spare battery!!!!

Hi Alan, I was just about to say that certain model do not have removal batteries at all so I do apologize for the tech giving you incorrect information. Also, i'm glad you were able to get the unit working again. In the future if you have any questions or concerns just send me an email directly at cl-fred@asus.com and I will try to assist as much as I can.

Thanks, Fred. The way things are going, I may have to take you up on that. I'm feeling my way along. There are still a BUNCH of buttons and doo-dads I don't understand. But I like figuring things out...as long as they CAN BE figured out. The battery thing was just a bottomless hole!

You can remove the battery LOL all you do is take the screws from the back off and take 2 screws out of the battery and your done. There are no warranty stickers of any sort so you will not void you warranty as I put a SSD in this computer. If you do not know what you are doing it take it to someone though. It's just like a macbook you cant just take the battery off of those. Also the manual is available for download on the ASUS site, a lot of computers don't come with a full manual anymore.

Hey bbb21, Do you have any videos or pictures about how to upgrade the RAMs from 8g to 16g.

I ordered additional memory from crucial, planning to upgrade, and now I'm stuck not being able to find a screwdriver anywhere small enough to unscrew the minuscule screws on the thing.
