ToShiba laptop HELP

I got a Toshiba Satellite laptop from a friend and I don't have and disk that came with it. I power it on and the Toshiba screen comes on and off then goes to a black screen. It says GRU GRUB MENU, and Liniox restore options. Does this make any sense??? I need help please!!!

It sounds like your friend had Linux installed. Does your computer have a Windows sticker on it? If so, what version?
