My touch pad sporadically quits functioning on my laptop. In the past I have "stumbled" onto fixing it but can't remember what it is I did. I have a HPElitebook 8440p, running Windows 10. I've checked for driver updates and my device manager says the touchpad is on, but it still isn't responding. Does anyone out there have a solution to my problem?

My guess is that your Elitebook isn't tested to run Windows 10. Going by HP's support page, your Elitebook tops out with Windows 7:

http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-elitebook-8440p-notebook-pc/4095872

Click 'I don't see my operating system'. You'll see that August 2013 is an important date. Also, HP advises against downloading drivers from third-party vendors recommending instead that you check Windows Update for relevant drivers.

If your Elitebook is not on the list of tested/compatible machines, then I'm afraid you have to go back to Windows 7 or buy a new laptop.

Have you check your touchpad settings and anything related to it? Do uninstall and reinstall. If still not working, you can do system restore to the earlier date you since you fixed it before.
