Thank god for the change in administration. Under our last one we would say "they hate freedom" and use this as an excuse to occupy them.

If you didn't figure it out, I'm an American.

Just wait for a US occupied North Korea or Iran before you spread your cheeks for the current administration.

Uhhmmmm... China said its optional on 16 June 2009. Now if weather China is just saying that to claim people down and actually just ship it out anyways with new PCs is another story. And maybe they should be more up to date. http://www.tomsguide.com/us/China-Green-Dam-Porn-filter,news-4081.html As posted on Tom’s hardware
@ Scook9,
I disagree with you on the basis that you are an American. Did you write a letter to your senator, voicing your opinion? Form rallies for protest? Try to be constructive and reach out to people? Did you even look at the views and opinions of the people running into office in your local state? Furthermore I can agree that America should not be the “world police” however few countries have the influence on other countries as we do. I hope that you find some meaningful outlet for your rage. There is a military draft, although currently not in effect because of the Brave men and women of this great land. Sure if there was a draft would you be among the cowards to flee to another country? This I cannot say. And if you truly detest America so much please leave the land of the free and the home of the Brave!

snowysoul: your with us or get out attitude is very neo-american... this country was established by people of many races, creeds and beliefs and for you to state that we all of the sudden have to leave if we don't agree with you or even the 'majority'... makes me wonder about the path this country is really moving into.

it seems this has become a media circus and no one is bothering to check their facts before making statements. the chinese government has already stated that only the installation of the software is mandatory, it's use is not. there has also been no mention that the PC has to keep the software on it once the consumer picks it up. they have the right to wipe the system and start from scratch if they wish. for all our technological advancements... we're still very ass-backwards!

@ Hanin33 Thank you for being a good person and not lowering yourself to making ridiculous comments like moron or things of that nature. I respect where you are coming from. This country does have a military draft option. Many Americans I feel take this for granted. The fact that there are others stepping up to on the call so others may enjoy the benefits of not having to.
While making a point to scook9 I did not hold back in what I thought and what this person said did anger me. But what I should have said is no one is making that individual stay in America. Sure I could have ended it with letting scook9 know there are options out there along with the above. I went further and on a tangent that I shouldn’t have gone into. Since it was out of my own anger. That is what I get for acting out of impulse. So I will learn from this. Claim down first and then try to write something more constructive.

snowysoul: exactly... also don't confuse valid thoughts with trolls.. which this forum is not exempt from.

this so-called objection to the filtering of information is sorta ironic when you think about the level of control over 'Intellectual Property' that has arisen in the Union. Copyright and Patent law has managed to make free thought not so free. The world existed before them and people managed just fine, yet in this day and age, we find ourselves immersed in other people's greed. maybe we need another revolution here... maybe we need to start again to get a better grasp on reality... who knows!

Hanin33: That's because of lawyers. The amount of lawyers in the USA is the same ratio as Japan's amount of engineers. If we didn't have a bunch of idiots as lawyers and instead doing something rather productive (engineering new mechanical devices versus writing ridiculous laws) we wouldn't be in nearly as deep of sh*t as we are today.

America, the land of the free where if you try to exercise your freedom you're labeled as a bigot.

i think the u.s. embassy is right. putting up the web filter is not productive for both countries.

off topic: i don't know of any other idea to protect innovators without the copyright and patents. crude and not ideal but many countries use it too.

The funny (sad?) thing is I don't even believe what I said before, I was just joking haha. Seriously this time, I believe we are there because there was oil there and we needed it (remember who the last administration was filled by, people rich off "energy" - read OIL). If we were in this war for a reason that I believed in and supported, I would gladly volunteer my life to serve my country, but as this current engagement is atrocious to me, yes - if there was a draft I would avoid it. Don't get me wrong, I fully support the troops that have to fight because poor leaders told them too. I do not support the leaders or the choices they made. Sadly, many other Americans feel the same way I do about this, that is why our government is desperate to get anyone they can to join the armed forces. The bonuses and incentives for signing up today are the highest they have ever been because that is the only way they can get people to join up. They are practically bribing people to join now. Hope you see where I am coming from, my first post was sarcasm, this one is for real.

Wow man, chill, I didn't say they did it to help us (the American people). I believe they did it to help them (the people who aim to profit off such an event). I also prefer lower priced gasoline dude, wasn't fun paying $70 to fill a dam Honda last summer.
