System tray is the area by the clock.
There is probably a key combination to turn on/off the touch pad, Function key and one of the F keys most often, or some touchpads have an area you can press on for a second to turn it off, look at the manual for your model. May also be some custom keypress like Ctl-Shift-T or something. The manual will tell you.
