Update and fix my vista desktop

Hello guys,
I have a Windows Vista 32 bit desktop computer. Havent used in about 2-3 years. Everytime i shut it off or leave idle for more than an hour, the screen goes black and when i turn it back on i can only see my mouse everyting else is black. ive restarted the computer and the screen is black i can only see the mouse. start up menu and such works fine. i always have to system restore to an earlier date just so ican use for a day and then repeat. Everything on this needs an update such as the drivers, just dont know how, someone please help. <removed by Moderator> . PLEASE HELP!

This sounds like an update issue.
Do you have automatic updates on? Does it try to install updates when you are using it?
I think the easiest solution would be to do a clean install. That gives you the opportunity to start with a clean slate and install all the correct drivers.

I always have an update that pops up and seems to always ruin the computer lol.. How would i go abouts a clean install?
