VGA to HDMI converter/cables

I want to use my HD television as a monitor for my Dell Vostro 1000 laptop. I am looking for the hardware for vga to hdmi. I looking to spend less than $30.00 on the whole setup (converter/cables) since I have been unemployed since the beginning of the recession.

Don' t know if you can do it at that price but something like this

or possibly a USB to HDMI converter. There are cheap cables but they won't work unless you laptop will put out digital video on the VGA connector.

I found a VGA to HDMI cable for $5.99 that required me to turn on the ditigal feature on my VGA port but my video card didn't support that option.

DVDCROSS I am trying to link my lenovo ultrabook hdmi to a vga monitor with that same cable and it didn't work... suggestions ?
