want to connect audio from new tv to old steroe

I have a new series 6 samsung tv and I want to connect to my old pioneer vsx-403 home stereo. the stereo only has rca inputs and the tv has an extra hdmi port. where do I go from here?

it has an optical out let. The digital to analog converter using the optical outlet does not work. I get a humm noise.

I do not have this as a choice. There is a a choice for using the digital optical out or internal tv speakers and I tried both with out success

If you can't set the TV to output in PCM stereo your DAC would need to accept 5.1 bitstream to work. Most don't.
