Hi:

I have a HDTV with all the usual connections on it, including VGA.

Basically I have a CAT 5 cable run under the floor into my AV room behind my TV. I would like to connect the VGA port on my laptop to the CAT 5 cable and connect it some how to the TV.

Would it be better to connect VGA > CAT 5 > HDMI on TV or VGA > CAT 5 > VGA? I also need to know the best way to accomplish this. Looking to get the best possible picture without spending thousands of dollars.

I know there are a lot of devices out there and they are a little confusing as to which would be best. Any guidance would be great.

Shawn.

Solution
VGA>CAT 5>VGA. It will be cheaper, and converting the signal to HDMI won't increase the picture quality. HDMI would only be useful if your laptop had a native HDMI out port, as it would pass a better signal since it is digital.
