Just called Mitsubishi customer service After politely refusing to pay the $200 for service, I was not given a chance to talk to a supervisor. I was not placed on hold or given a choice to get any other offers. What do you do when they do not place you on hold or come back with another offer? I was told that unless there was something on the Mitsubishi website about the chip being defective, there was no alternative.

I don't know what to tell you SummerStJohns, I did exactly what the previous post said to do, and it worked, word for word, 10 minutes on the phone. Now by the time I was able to return the form back to Mitsubishi by scanning it with my signature and them calling me back to say they received it a few days later, plus they let me know the next call I will get is the TV Repair shop calling to set up an in the house appointment, which was about a week and a half later. And the set up the appointment, they came and was in and out in literally 25-30 minutes. I was talking to him and he says he does this kind of repair at least once a day and only on Mitsubishi TV's, because they seem to be the only one's with the faulty DMD chip... It was really quick and he cleaned out the inside of the TV and said it should last another few years... So basically the guy told me that he is being paid for a two hour job that he can do in like 20 minutes... And probably in less than 10 minutes with no distractions...

Thank you so much for the advice!! I just called them, stuck to my guns, and they are coming out to repair it for FREE! They gave me the whole $200 labor fee, then I asked to speak to a supervisor.. she came back and said she would throw in a free bulb. I declined politely and insisted they send me the part so I could do it myself. She told me there was no other options. I told her to let me speak to a supervisor. She placed me on hold, came back, and said they would pay for the labor and the part! They are going to send me some kind of waiver that I have to sign and send back to them then they will call me to setup an appointment for a technician to come out and replace the part. I can't thank you enough!!

I am glad to hear that... You have to stick to your guns and be firm, but polite. They should automatically be paying since this is a faulty DMD Chip, and only happening to the Mitsubishi TV's...

I had the same problem with the white spot.
Glad I found this site before I paid someone to fix it.
Called Mitsubishi as advised here. Stuck to my guns and was very polite.
First was the "fix for $200.00" - declined by me
Second was the "fix for $200.00 + bulb - declined by me
Last was the "fix at no charge - SOLD
The repair man came out a few days ago and did the repair at the stated "no cost".
He couldn't believe that Mitsubishi was picking up the entire tab and wanted to know how I did it.
Hat's off to Mitsubishi for their support.

I took a receiver in to a local shop to get fixed. They told me Mitsubishi is replacing the DLP chips. It cost me $200 for the repair guy to come to my house and the chip was shipped for free by Mitsubishi. Call their customer service number online and talk to someone. Tell them your DLP chip is bad and that the local tv repair shop said that they would fix it. The chip costs about $200 online, so if you can get someone else to fix it, it's a good deal. Now that I watched them do it I feel comfortable doing it next time. If there is a next time.

Just got off the phone w/ Mitsubishi and they are replacing it for free!!! Had to do the same thing by asking to speak w/ a supervisor and after the third time they offered the free repair! Now I just have to wait for form to be emailed to me sign it and send it back and so long white dots! FYI my tv is a wd-65835. Hope this helps out and first and foremost thanks for the info above on how to get it for free.

Just got off the phone with Mitsubishi. The best offer they would give me on my 2008 WD-C657 with the white dots was replacement of the DMD chip, but they never offered the lamp or to pay for the labor. I spoke to 3 reps and a supervisor, and all would not offer anything above the replacement of the chip.

I guess with a 7 year old TV its probably not worth 200$ to fix. I have never replaced the bulb, so that will be another 200$ coming up...might as well take the 400$ and get a new non Mitsubishi TV.

I was somewhat disappointed as I've had TVs last at least 15 years in the past and my brothers Samsung 65inch Plasma is running strong at 20 years...

They must only do the waiver and cost of labor on certain models, or they changed policy recently.

Called Mitsubishi this AM.. after 10 min with "Joe", and the offer of the chip with repair cost of $200, I politely asked for supervisor. "joe" says supervisor will not offer any more than he's offering 'cause "supervisor instructed him what to offer". Adds that all supervisors are handling calls right now. I ask to wait. Few minutes later, Joe comes back says none still available. (Probably handling more calls of white dot issue). Told Joe I will wait. He offers a callback from supervisor. I agree. It will take 1-3 business days. I am being very calm, polite, but firm. I will update after a supervisor calls back.

Update: 2 days, phone tag back & forth.. finally spoke with 'Marie' the supervisor. Bottom line result: absolutely no way will Mistsu will cover repair cost of $200. I have 30 days to decide if I want the 'offer' of no charge for part, but pay $200 for repair. No other options offered. I was prepared, professional, well-mannered, and firm in all my discussions, but that's their bottom line. (Part cost is around $160-170 so no brainer to have professionally done). So it's 200 for refurbing my 5 yr old mitsu.. or put into a new one. (hmm.. 4k looks soooo nice!)

I own the 60" DLP and I had the small white dots problem as well. Although my dots were in the early stage of developing (I only had five), I took the advice of a few people comments on this topic and called Mitsubishi Service Center 1-800-332-2119. The best call I could've ever made. Mitsubishi picked up the cost for the part (DMD chip) and scheduled a TV repair specialist for an in home repair for a small amount $214.00 for labor +tax. It was money well spent. If you live in NJ I highly recommend Tino's TV repair an certified Mitsubishi TV repair specialist. Tino himself came to my home to do the job. Kudos to Mitsubishi Service Center and Tino's TV Repair!! If you're having the white dot problem call Mitsubishi and please don't attempt this tedious repair on your own. Way too many things can go wrong, just pick up the telephone, you won't be disappointed!!

A few years ago I called and complained about my 73 with white dots. After a little while they sent the chip directly to me and had to sign a form.

I recently received a 65 and called about the chip. I tried everything under the sun and they wouldn't do anything except send the chip to a local tech and the 200 service charge. I got ahold of the service tech and he only charged me 100. I also tried getting another chip for my 73 while I was on the phone and they said the model is too old and they don't support it which I think is bull. (wd-73833)

My 73in Mitsubishi TV had 3 white dots. I was shopping for a new tv, but I love my big Mitsubishi, it has run flawlessly for 5 years, not even a bulb replacement. After reading this thread I called Mitsubishi 800.332.2119. They were very helpful, and they are sending someone to fix it. They will pay for the parts. I have to pay $200 labor and tax if any. What a deal. Thanks everyone for posting on this site. I bought the set refurbished from Tiger Direct and purchased no extended warranty. Mitsubishi is a great company.

I just contacted Mitsubishi and they offered to cover the cost of the parts, we pay $200 service fee plus tax and any mileage (I live in a rural area, the mileage could be significant). They do this "as a gesture of goodwill." And that is enough to make me buy another Mitsubishi. Our tv is from 2008, and as a gift we don't even have any proof of purchase, and with this fix it might last another 6 or 20years!
