Windows on External HD

Hi All,
My Acer Aspire V5-531-4439 just crashed, and I believe the hard drive has failed. When I attempt to re-install windows, I am treated with the following: "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. The disk may fail soon. If other hard disks are available, install Windows to another location."

My question is, if I had an external HD, could I install & boot windows from it? There IS an option to boot from external USB HD in the BIOS menu (which I could set to top priority).

What do you guys think? Thanks!

So Win7 will in fact boot and run from an external HD?

The vid is explaining how to install windows from an external hdd. You cannot install windows 7 on an external hdd. It's also quite old and there are easier ways.

Shit. Ok, so it's not possible to install Win7 ON an external HD?

You can make a portable install from another pc but you can't use the normal install onto a usb. For w7 you have to use pwboot. But if the specs are a lot different, it won't work.
