ASUS laptop boot problem.

Hi all. I have an ASUS U36JC laptop with specs below

Intel Core i5 480M @ 2.6GHz
4GB DDR3 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce 310m
500GB Seagate 7200 HDD

First of all, i wanted to clean the heatsink and the fan as i figured that theres a ton of dust in it. It all when succesful everything was clean and come to the point insert back the hdd to the board call the IO board that attaches to the mainboard. I screw back everything, turn it on and it didnt detect my HDD in bios. I tried reseating the HDD and the IO board but no luck. Power light stays lit. Battery light stays lit but HDD light lit up when i turn on the laptop and then off went it POST. It then went to BIOS straight. So what might be the problem? Do i have to replace the hdd? I can boot to BIOS though and i can still boot Windows 8 installation via USB thumbdrive. Installation do not detect my HDD. HDD didnt spin/no sound. There are no beep sounds to detect.

Any help is appreciated

Triple check that the drive and daughter board are secure, and check for damage. It's possible the drive or board has failed; possible even that the daughter/IO board suffered ESD damage.

I highly doubt it suffered from ESD. The detachable daughter board consists of LED indicators for the battery etc, WIFI adapter, CMOS Battery, Touchpad clicker, HDD port. I could still see the lights, use the touchpad click on windows installation usb, HDD light lit up as soon as i press the power button then it went POST while HDD light came back off, stuck in POST for about 10 seconds and it went to bios automatically. Pressing the power button to turn off the laptop while in BIOS and i can see the HDD light lit back on and then laptop powers down.

Okay... In any case, the fact remains: it's not working. At this point it's worth exploring replacing the drive first, or at least testing it in another computer, if possible. If the daughter board failed, you might be able to find a replacement on eBay. The only reason I stressed checking everything once more is due to experience; we've seen it happen here where something doesn't get reassembled correctly.

But if everything is put back together as it should be, there's a fair chance you're going to need to replace the drive or the board.
