Asus wierd keyboard problems again

I have an Asus Zenbook Ux31A which is about 9 months old. A week ago the q k c and . keys stopped working. If I use an External keyboard they are fine. Bizarre thing is if I run Windows 8 defender they start working again only to stop 5 mins later Its driving me crazy - the Defender 'solution' suggests its a software problem can anyone help me cure it before I dump my beloved zenbook?

Since it's only 9 months old, get a hold of Asus, I think they give a 1 year warranty. Might be as simple as a driver conflict. Let them eat the price under warranty

You can try uninstalling the generic driver for the keyboard in Device Manager, then reboot so that Windows automatically installs the default driver again. If there's no firmware update for the keyboard, you may actually have to contact Asus. It's possible the problem is with the keyboard controller.

I would contact customer support and they can set you up with an RMA. Since it's only 9 months old, you're still under warranty and this keyboard issue is definitely covered.

I have an Asus Zenbook Ux31A with windows 8. The other day the keyboard stopped working once I logged in....the keyboard worked fine while I was logging in - but once I logged in any keys that I hit on the keyboard gave a beeping sound and none of them worked. I called Asus and they wanted me to send it back to them. I took it back to Best Buy and a got a great Geek Squad guy who figured out the problem with me. The issue revolves around "filters" - go to your Charms and do a search for "Filter" under settings - and the first result is "Ignore repeated key strokes using filterkeys" - select this - the first box "Turn on Filter Keys" should be unchecked - in my case somehow this box got checked - when this is checked the keys on the keyboard will work but you have to continuously hold each key down for 2 to 3 seconds for it to work. Once I unchecked the "Turn on Filter Keys" my keyboard starting working fine. The Best Buy agent saved me a ton of misery and heartache.

Filter keys was introduced in Windows 95 and has been around ever since. Just how old is your version of Windows?

Don't dis the 3.1 man!! Haha. Filter keys is something I've never run into before and I had completely put them out of my mind.

Same problem here,, i took your run the defender advice then it works...^^
