When I first hooked up my laptop to my TV via HDMI everything worked perfectly. Then, randomly, the audio stopped working. I think I have isolated the problem to my laptop but none of the forum solutions seem to work for me. I believe it's my laptop that's the problem because I've tried a different HDMI cable that I know works with my XBOX One and I've tried different HDMI ports, which all work with my XBOX. I have tried the solution of Show Disabled Devices in Sound (Playback Devices). I have tried all the different Formats in the Advanced tab of Properties for my HDMI connection. I have tried sound playback from a file and online (and online from different sites) and I get no audio. I can switch it so that I get video over HDMI and have the audio come through my laptop, but that sucks, especially when it worked properly before. Of note is the fact that when audio should be playing, I see the audio bars lighting up on the HDMI connection when I look in Sound (Playback Devices) as if it's playing the audio. I have tried restarting everything and I am sure that volume is not an issue at any point. In case it's relevant, I am using an ASUS Zenbook running Windows 10 Home, and the TV is a Dynex.

I'd recommend trying two things to see if it solves your problem:

1) Restart the Windows audio service. Press your Windows key + R to bring up the Run dialogue box. Type in services.msc and select the Windows audio service. Restart it. Now try to select your television as the audio device.

2) If the above step is unsuccessful, restart your computer while the television is on and connected to your laptop through HDMI. Audio should play automatically.

Sound Issues have become quite inherent to the Win 10 OS so far. It's not a bad OS, it's just still in infancy and not everything is playing together nicely yet.

You were correct that after I did those steps, including restart, audio works again! Thank you so much!!!

Absolutely brilliant! Thank you. I've got an HTPC system running through a Denon receiver, and for whatever reason, suddenly I couldn't get audio to come through from my PC via hdmi. Video was fine, just no audio. No faults registered anywhere. Windows sound management said that everything was working perfectly and being sent to my Denon, so I spent hours fault searching my Denon to no avail.
After using different search words I finally end up at this little beauty. It sounded too good to be true, but it was true. It worked!

Funny thing is, I had already tried restarting TV, receiver and PC, but apparently not in that specific order, or maybe it was the restart of the windows audio that did the trick.

I wouldn't have found this in a million years. You're a life saver! :)

Thanks again!
