Beware CLD-R7G on eBay

Just to let you know, avoid listing
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=5752489606

This CLD-R7G is a player I tried to fix but could not get parts as Pioneer
was having trouble locating them.

The seller also knows what is really wrong but is not listing the problems
in the description.

I do not consider this person honest at all in my dealings with him. I
normally do not say things like this here but he is just out to make a
killing on a non-working unit as he saw a working one go for big bucks.

The ironic thing is that his description states that the drawer doesn't
open, yet his picture (actually Nicolas' picture from his site!) shows
the drawer open... what a dork this seller must be.

Too bad people have to resort to 'scamming" like this, if its broke
tell exactly what is wrong and let the potential buyer decide if a
lower price is worth maybe being able to fix it, or get it fixed.

I would love to get my hands on a CLD-99, but am a little nervous on a
used unit getting damaged in shipping, or worse yet getting something
like this that is being sold under false pretenses. Though my
CLD-D704 works really good (bought brand new in 1996) it needs a trip
downstate to Classic Stereo for a general maintainance. It is showing
a few of the 704 symptoms.

Nitehawk;

Unless your really picky about NTSC artifacts I'd skip over the CLD-99 and
find an LD-S9. The CLD-99 is a 704 with only upgrade being the 3D Adaptive
comb filter. Now the 3D adaptive filter in the S9 is better but the S9 only
plays LD's, no CD's.

I caught the picture with the open drawer. I was going to ask the
seller a question and see what he had to say. So much for showcasing
HIS unit, robbing someone else's pictures.

Kurtis,

Thanks for the input on the LD-S9, I wonder however what my chances of
finding a good quality LD-S9 player would be vs a CLD-99. I dont
think Nicolas has anymore.

The S9's are showing up on eBay from other sellers randomly, the only
problem is that it will probably cost you double what a CLD-99 would cost.
I bought a HLD-X9 back when I could get one for $2000, glad I did. But
someday they'll be back to $2000 or lower.

BTW just how good is the Pioneer CLD-R7G? Is it really the "best" player
ever made?!

Well. Couldn't help myself...I just asked the seller the exact same
question.

I'd bet a sixpack, that the question and answer never reaches the
auction-page.

I trust that you did this in a way that can't be traced
to your eBay account, which presumably you used to obtain
the email address of the winner (admittedly, they might
have advertised it on their About-Me page, in which case
anyone can see it).

Even when you are 100% certain that an auction is a scam,
sending warnings to other buyers is "auction interference"
<http://pages.ebay.com/help/policies/transaction-interference.html>
It is definitely a violation of eBay policy, and may even
be illegal in your locale (under UCC).

The risk is that your eBay account could end up NARU,
temporarily or permanently, and there are at least three
ways this could happen:

1. Winning bidder assumes you are a disgruntled underbidder
trying to sabotage the sale and get the seller to sell
to you - so they report you.

2. Seller sees your admission in netnews and reports you.

3. Some other vigilante sees your admission, etc.

Chances are, however, that the winner will recognize your
good-faith intentions, and be grateful. Unfortunately, they
are still the winner, and obliged to complete the deal.

However, they have recourse (and you might so advise them
if you continue communications).

They need to propose to the seller to no-sale the deal,
where the seller files NPB/FVFc, using the
"mutually agreed option". Failing that ..

If the buyer and deal meet the PayPal buyer protection
requirements, they have a legit "significantly not as
described" dispute.

If they fund the buy thru PayPal with a credit card, they
have a charge-back option under U.S. FCBA.

Leave feedback entirely out of it until the dust settles.

There was an option to hide my e-mail address when I sent the e-mail.
I am not worried about any retaliation as my feedbacjk is 100% on a
couple of hundred transactions and I don't use Ebay that much anymore
anyway but I appreciate your points.

Hello, new S9 are long gone, but used decks are available from me and i
can have Pioneer Japan overhaul them before shipping out.

As to the pictures (and some of the text) posted on this auction, yes
they were lifted (obviously) from my website, as the original provider
of that deck to the seller (at that time it was in perfect working
condition, and reached him perfectly as well) i usually do all i can to
help get a better resale value, which in the present case was to not
request eBay to pull it out for contents copying.

I haven't posted the link in a while, here it is:

Thx for reading,
