Can I select in built tv speakers if I have an audio or digital optical cable plugged into my samsung tv

Can I still choose to use the TV speakers instead of external if I have a digital audio out cable plugged into the TV

In most cases yes. You would have to turn the internal speakers off in the audio menu. You can just turn the TV volume down as well (if you use mute it often leaves "mute" on the screen) when you want external sound.
