Not quite.

The TV has HDMI IN and the 5.1 DVD player has HDMI OUT.

You can watch the DVD player on the TV.

You may be able to send TV audio(to listen on the dvd player speakers) back to the DVD player if your TV has a line out and the dvd player has a line in(TV/Cable IN). This will allow tv sound to play on the DVD player(it acts as just an amplifier in that mode.).
