Do i need a VGA splitter or HDMI Splitter?

Hi Guys,
I have a monitor with HDMI and VGA input
Plus
a TV with HDMI and VGA

I want to connect them both up to my laptop (PC). Do i need a VGA splitter or HDMI splitter? or does it not matter?

I want to be able to extend the display to the two monitors.

From the research i have done it seems impossible to use one running on HDMI and the other on VGA.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

So you are saying if i get this USB to VGA i can run both screens via VGA and i will be able to extend the screen?
Not just have duplicate screens on both?

Hi, you can use both of your monitors, one on the HDMI port, and the other one on the VGA port in the extended mode. But you will loose the laptop screen.
