Dell Precision M6600 screen problem:

My wife accidentally stepped on the bottom left of my open laptop screen (Dell Precision M6600) last night and now I am getting a 1inch White Vertical band going down my screen. It is 1-inch wide and comes down starting about halfway between the Center of the Screen and the left edge of the screen. Everything is duplicated on the left side of this 1-inch white line (see image at

Sometimes the area left of the white vertical 1-inch line flickers all White also (see image at
http://postimg.org/image/ugycitvzl/) and when I push on the screen in this area sometimes it gets better (this area to the left of the 1-inch line gets better, but the 1-inch white line always stays there going vertically all the way through my screen) see image at

I was hoping it was just a loose LCD cable connection due to the pressure placed when she stepped on the computer/LCDscreen so I took off the screen and then unplugged and plugged back in the LCD cable going into the screen itself, although this did not fix the problem. I have not yet disassembled the laptop and tested the connection of the LCD cable to the motherboard (mainly because I was guessing this wasn't the source of the error since the pressure occurred when she stepped on the Actual screen, not the keyboard/motherboard area, suggesting that if it was just a connection issue then it would've been the connection in the screen area.

My first question is whether my assumption is correct that it is either the LCD screen itself that needs replacing, or if it is the LCD cable that needs replacing? My 2nd question is which one you think it is more likely to be? We are in somewhat of a time crunch which is why I wouldn't just wait for a week to ship the cheaper LCD cable and if that doesn't work wait another week to ship the LCD screen. Lastly, I wanted to make sure their isn't some easy simple(even unlikely) solution that I shouldn't try first, such as resetting the graphics driver or display settings, etc. Thank you all for your help!

because I caused that problem to get worst on a customer's laptop after it got hit by a speaker on the top edge of the screen causing the center part to be distorted like the left side of your screen. I played around with the circuit board mounted on the back top of the screen in attempt to fix the distortion & the left side distorted too. I ordered a new screen which resolved the problem.

Thank you for the response! Can I ask how you were so sure it was the screen and not the cable (I was leaning towards it being the screen) but I just wanted to gain a better understanding and be more sure of my decision before I purchase one. Can you tell me how you knew it was the screen as the problem and that the LCD Cable wasn't causing the problems?

Last question, The screen that seems to be broken was 1600 x 900 resolution and I am hoping to upgrade to a 1920 x 1080. I have both an Intel HD 3000 graphics card and Nvidia Quadro 3000M video card as well. It is my understanding that I should be able to handle a full 1920 x 1080 screen resolution without problems. Is there anything I should be worried about regarding this potential upgrade?
