Solved! Exposed wire within laptop

My laptop has a motherboard power cable made up of 6 smaller cables (red,white,blue,yellow,black and grey). Right near the motherboard end the yellow cable has a split in the insulation leaving the wire exposed. I believe the yellow wire may be the live 12V (or could possibly be the ground).

I am interested in thoughts as to whether insulation tape is sufficient in this case to deal with this problem?

Tape will do for now, but a more permanent repair would be better. this would require skill, knowledge and tools you probably dont have though.

My solution would be to remove the cable from where it terminated, slide a section of heat shrink tubing over the break, and heat shrink it; then reattach the cable.

Luckily I have some insulation tape. I was thinking about removing the cable and just buying a new one, however, I am having some difficulty removing the connector from the motherboard (which is pretty much a first for me having worked on quite a few PCs/laptops). I don't think its soldered on, I am not certain though. Videos of the same model show the cable coming out with ease on their system.

Its usually very tight after year or two, remember that if its by any chance loose, laptop will become unusable I sometimes use flat screwdriver to pry it open without much strength, and better control. first little bit goes hard, then its easy.

Heat shrink insulating cable best, wrap it around existing cable and use a hot hair dryer or heat gun to make a tight wrap.

Thanks everyone. I am going to stick with the insulator tape which seems to seal the affected area nicely.

My laptop's display is also exposed, used it for a year with tape around it and it still works fine. So no need to replace anything, as you sayd just get some tape around it.

Question from Componentgirl90 : "HP G61-110sa - Motherboard power cable exposed"

I am changing the paste on a G61 110sa.

I am not sure if I damaged it or if it was already like that but one of the 6 power cables going into the power connector which connects to the motherboard has a slight tear in it and it is exposed.

The cables are red,white,blue,black,yellow,maybe grey. The one which has a tear in it is the yellow one which I am assuming is ground. They are pretty thin cables and the tear is very small but some of the wire is exposed.

Is that dangerous?

I also cannot seem to remove the power connector from the motherboard. It seems to be stuck.

Im not actually sure its ground now as the colour coding for Power supplies seems to be different
