Google Chrome not responding

What can I do to stop freezing and lagging on Google Chrome...it takes several minutes (6-7) for the browser or anything else to operate and while it is frozen and or lagging, I notice that my computer is racing and until that stops, I'm stuck, once you notice it gearing down, u know it's going back to normal within a few seconds...HELP!! Oh also Shockwave Flash is always crashing...

Make sure it's all updated to the latest version.

If you have an ancient machine, it may not work very well.
