Have old laptop, want to highjack its screen

So I have this old laptop I've taken apart for the fun of it. Its screen works, and I need an extra screen anyway, so I was wondering if there was a way to highjack the interior (well, exterior now, since it's taken apart) input cable to let it accept plain old HDMI cables. I can see the input cable for the monitor, but it's just a motherboard plug. Is there anything I can buy that will convert it?

Yes, you can turn an old laptop screen into a monitor, but it will require some additional parts, and it is an ambitious project. Good luck with it!
