Hey, I need to get a Shure SM58 to record stuff on my pc. With this being said, I can't afford a mixer or anything like that. Also, my onboard audio is broken which is why I need the USB soundcard. I know it's better to use an audio interface, but will this setup work?`

Mic: Shure SM 58

Anything else I need? like a stand adapter etc. Thanks!

the at2020 is a cardiod pickup. what this means is that it picks up in the below pattern.
at2020_polar.jpg

so it naturally helps to isolate noise from the rear.

your choice of course.

normal pci/pcie soundcards like the xonar dg/dgx ($27) are fine.
or you can save yourself quite a bit of hassle and get a usb microphone like the atr2500, at2020usb+ or blue yeti and not have to worry about buying a soundcard or adapters. they are highly regarded microphones.

afaik "dynamic" microphones do not need 48v phantom power while others do so an xlr to 3.5mm will likely work in this case.

I really wanted an At2020, but I have an extremely loud keyboard and pc, and a condenser microphone would pick up the sounds. With that being said, would getting a normal PCIe sound card be good?
