Hook up surround

How can I hook up my digital TV with old onkyo receiver so I can watch TV and hear through my speakers ?

Without details your options would be
1. Optical audio out of TV to optical input on receiver. Turn on optical on TV and set up input on receiver.
2. Headphone or analog audio out of TV to receiver RCA stereo input.
3. Optical audio out of TV to DAC which converts output to RCA stereo for receiver.

It's a Emerson flat screen TV digital with the imports on the back side and the outputs on the side .I have a old reciver that is not digital also bought a blue ray box with HDMI port the TV has same ports but the reciver does not support HDMI.

what outputs does the tv have? its all well and good to know it has them on the side, but that tells me nothing about what you have. headphone jack? rca out? optical out? coax out?

likewise, its all well and good to know your receiver is not digital as that narrows down what kind of connections and what devices you would need but it doesnt answer the question. what inputs does it have? red/white rca only? full 6ch analog inputs?

a very generic answer would be this:

blueray box -(hdmi)-> hdmi audio extractor -(hdmi)->tv
analog output from hdmi extractor -> receiver analog input

they make 2.0 and 5.1 models of extractor.
