How do I connect Xfinity X1 DVR cable box to old Yamaha RX-V2300 component receiver for 5.1 surround sound? No HDMI port on receiver. HDMI straight to tv but not getting sound through the receiver.

You will need to connect the audio output of the TV to the receiver. Optical audio is the most common type.
Check the TV manual on how to turn on and use it.
Check the receiver manual on how to assign the digital connection to an input.
