HP laptop will not read CD's/DVD's

HP laptop running Windows 10 will not read any CD's and when I connect an external usb cd/dvd drive it won't read that either. The first noticed the problem after installing Ashampoo Burning Studio 18. I have used Ashampoo for years and have never had problems before but I can't seem to get any advice from them. I have done all the usual things eg: remove and update driver, uninstall the hardware and reinstall, searched for the problem in device section but still nothing. The discs will play in other units and the usb drive is also OK on other computers.
Help in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried uninstalling Ashampoo software then trying the CD drive after restarting Windows?

I have a HP laptop and since installing Ashampoo Burning Studio 18 the CD/DVD drive will not work and connecting an external drive does not work either even though other usb devices work OK. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drive, updated the driver and tried all the microsoft and other sugestions re: device manager settings to no avail. The CD's and the usb device work fine in other computers. It would be nice to not have to use another computer every time I need to run a CD or DVD.
