HDMI is digital video and audio and VGA analog video.
You can't use a passive cable to convert HDMI to VGA.
You will need an active converter.
This assumes your display has a VGA input.
If the display is HDMI then a wireless HDMI transmitter and receiver will produce a much better picture. Running new cables would be the other option.
