Laptop is very slow

Hello
i have Sony VAIO laptop and its conf. is i5,4GB RAM 500GB hd and WIN7 PRO 64bit OS.
It's running very slow and i have never update it's windows.
I have already done scanning with kaspersky antivirus and free malwarebytes.
and also some maintenance with ccleaner. But it still very slow.
Now i am thinking of factory reset it.
So i want to know will it work good after factory reset.
or should i try something else first.

You say you haven't updated its windows, do you mean you don't do the Windows Updates? Because you should.

A few other basic performance checks.
-Open task manager and look under the performance tab. Is your CPU at 100% while the system is "idling"? What about the Memory?
-Set your power options to high performance if it isn't already
-Check for background processes that could be slowing your system down
-Check for startup programs

Don't go straight for a factory reset yet, try the things listed above and see if it changes anything for you.

yes i've disabled windows update because of some reason(window is genuine)
--when system is idle it shows CPU Usage 0-5% and CPU after running 2 hr average temperature is 70° C
--Memory usage are as : Hardware Reserved 85MB - In Use 1748MB - Modified 63MB - Standby - 2100 MB - Free 20MB
--it's already set on High-Performance
--background process as i can see some catalyst control center monitoring and host application is running also with some sony vaio tools
--disabled all startup program via sysconfig
and i am using kaspersky internet security 2016

should i update windows? or anything else

Max out your memory (cheap, and you already have x64 windows)
SSDs are also cheap, make sure to buy one with a data transfer kit (usb to SATA cable and software)
Doing both of these will greatly speed up your system.

Hi there Jaiff,

You can:
- Clean the dust out of the laptop in case you haven't done that.
- Update all the drivers.
- Run some memory tests. There are some third party tools that can do that.
- Test your drive. In case there is something wrong with it, you need to back up the data stored on it: http/www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/282651-32-best-diagnostic-testing-utility
