Basically my laptop broke I need one for college however, I'd like to enjoy myself to some light gaming. I'm not looking for skyrim best setting but something I can have some fun with.
You best option within that budget is the following Asus laptop with a Core i3-5010u, 1080p screen and Intel HD 5500 graphics core for $350. AMD doesn't really have a laptop that can compete with that Asus within your price range.
The close laptop that can compete with that Asus is the following Lenovo Z50 which has a quad core AMD A10-7300, 1366x768 resolution screen and the integrated Radeon R6 (Kaveri) APU for $447. The A10-7300 is less powerful than the Core i3-5010u. The A10-7300 has the slower version of the Radeon R6 (Kaveri) graphics core which is about equal to a nVidia 720m GPU which is not much more powerful than the Intel HD 5500.
The faster version of the Radeon R6 (Kaveri) would be in the more powerful A10-7400p APU (which is less powerful than the Core i3-5010u) which would be about equal to the nVidia 730m. But that would bump up the price to $500.
But for $489 you can buy the following Acer laptop with a Core i5-5200u, 1080p screen & nVidia 940m. Note: the price of this laptop has been fluctuating between $489 and $519 recently.
