Looking to setup 2 screens for an extended display to my laptop

I have an HP(Model: 15-BS015DX) Laptop that only has one HDMI output. (No VGA or DVI).I have two Dell Monitors. Each Monitor has VGA and DVI outputs only (NO HDMI). How can I connect these two monitors to the laptop and have an extended display with optimum resolution? Should I use DVI or VGA?

P.S I was thinking of getting an DVI to HDMI splitter similar to this one: https/www.amazon.com/dp/B001TIT0X0/ref=nav_timeline_asin?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
but I read that only duplicates the images on both screens and not extend it.

Is there any other way?

Splitters are used to send the same video signals to both monitors which means both monitors will display the exact same thing. Generally speaking laptops without a displayport can only support two displays; the laptop's screen and one external monitor.

Integrated graphics cores and dedicated graphic cards can only process two video signals regardless of how many video output ports there are. So even if a laptop has a VGA, DVI and HDMI output port, only one external monitor can be used. DisplayPort is a different matter since it has it's own video processing chip which I believe can process 2 video signals. Many budget oriented laptops do not have DisplayPorts because it's processing chip makes it more expensive compared to VGA, DVI and HDMI which receives the video signal from the integrated graphics core or dedicated graphics chip.

You need to purchase a USB to DVI adapter which will have it's own video processing chip. This following one has pretty good reviews though it costs $47.

So I need to buy two of the "Plugable graphic Adapters" and plug into the laptop for this to work?
If so, since I would be spending right around the same price, what about this laptop dock? do you think this would be a smarter buy?

No you only need one USB to DVI adapter. But you still need a HDMI to DVI adapter.

The above device you provided a link to states the following in the description.


"Dual Video HDMI & DVI / VGA"


To me that means it supports two video outputs; one is HDMI and the other is DVI or VGA. Basically if you buy this device, then you would still need to purchase a HDMI to DVI cable.


Just purchase the following two items and you should be good to go.

I'm having the same problem. Connected one monitor using a HDMI - DVI cable. Would something like this resolve the issue with the other monitor?
