Media player for hd movies

Hello,
i am trying to play .avi file on VLC...it cant allow me to do that...
MSG display is" Trying to play HD files"
it is not playing on any of players...
please tell me what to do...

Try a codec pack. http/www.free-codecs.com/download/k_lite_codec_pack.htm

Have the latest VLC player? How was the .avi encoded? Is that the full error meassage you see? Nothing else?
